CBD Products: What They Are and What They Are Not

Herb Shack guide to CBD products, covering oils, edibles and pet treats and how CBD differs from THC

The most useful thing to know about cbd products is what separates them from everything else on our shelves: CBD is non-intoxicating. It will not get you high. That single fact is why it sits in a different part of the shop to THC edibles and why people buy it for entirely different reasons.

To be clear about what follows: this is a description of what we stock, not health advice. We do not make medical claims about CBD, and if you are considering it alongside medication or a health condition, that is a conversation for your doctor or pharmacist rather than a shop.

CBD and THC are not the same thing

Both come from the same plant. THC is the compound responsible for the high — it is what our bud shelf and edibles are built around. CBD is a different compound and does not produce that effect at all, which is why it turns up in formats you would never see THC in: pet treats, bath products, daily oils.

What the milligrams mean

Nearly all our CBD oils are labelled 600mg. That is the total CBD in the whole bottle, not in a single drop — the same total-versus-serving distinction that trips people up with edibles. How much is in one dropper depends on the bottle size, so the label on the product is the number to read.

The CBD products we stock

  • CBD Hemp Oil, 600mg — R270. The plain starting point.
  • CBD Moringa Oil, 600mg — R270. Hemp oil combined with moringa.
  • CBD Turmeric Oil, 600mg — R370.
  • CBD Tissue Salt Complex and CBD Oxygen Complex, 600mg — R380 each.
  • CBD Immune Complex, 600mg — R380.
  • CBD Doggy Treats — R220, in adult and puppy versions.
  • Magnesium Flakes 500g — R220, and infused exfoliating bath products from R180 on the skin and beauty shelf.

Choosing between them

If you have not used CBD before, the plain Hemp Oil at R270 is the straightforward place to begin — one ingredient, nothing else going on, so you can tell what you are responding to. The complexes combine CBD with other ingredients, which is worth having only if you actually want those additions.

As with anything else here, start low and give it time before changing anything.

Storage and shelf life

Oils keep best sealed, upright, out of direct sunlight and at a stable room temperature — the same principles as the flower storage guide, for the same reasons. Check the date on the bottle rather than assuming.

Herb Shack runs a loyalty membership: it is free to join, you need to be 18 or over to register, and registering is what unlocks the THC side of the shelf. Members earn a point for every R1 spent and put those points towards money off future orders.
