Smoking Accessories: Papers, Grinders, Lighters, Bongs and Rigs

Buying smoking accessories for the first time is mostly a question of order: some things change your experience immediately, others are a nice-to-have you can add later. Here is the honest sequence, with what each item costs on our consumables shelf — every item below links straight to the product.
Rolling papers and cones — from R15
Start here, because papers are cheap and they matter more than people expect. Our OCB range is R35 a pack and includes filter tips, which most people forget to buy separately: Platinum for a thin, slow burn, Bamboo, and Virgin for unbleached. Blunt wraps in Wild Honey, Bubble Gum, Wet Cherry, Watermelon, Grape and more sit at R30 each if you prefer a flavoured wrap.
If rolling is the part you do not enjoy, skip it: a single pre-rolled cone is R15 and a Hornet 6-pack is R40. Or buy the skill out of the equation with a rolling machine — OCB and Zig Zag, standard or king size, all R50.
A grinder — from R200
If you only buy one thing on this page, buy a grinder. Evenly ground flower burns evenly; torn-up-by-hand flower burns down one side and wastes itself. Ours are R200 for the Hornet and the Rubix Cube, R260 for the Cat, R280 for the Heavy Duty and R300 for the Heavy Duty Smart.
The heavier ones are worth the extra if you use them daily — the teeth stay sharp and the threads do not bind. If you are grinding once a week, the R200 models are perfectly good.
A lighter — from R20
The cheapest thing on the list and the one people borrow and lose. A custom jet lighter is R20. If you are using a rig, a single torch lighter at R300 is the right tool — a normal flame will not get you there. Both are on the lighters shelf.
Pipes, bongs and dab rigs — from R390
Glass is where the money goes, and it is genuinely optional. Our bongs, pipes and rigs start at R390 for the Sherlock Toking Pipe, which is the sensible first piece — small, simple, nothing to break.
Step up and it goes: Thick Clear Beaker at R850, Phoenix Glass Bong at R950, and the Phoenix Double Honeycomb at R1,300.
Dab rigs are a separate thing rather than a bigger bong — they are built for concentrates. The Phoenix Sphere Rig is R790 in black or green, the Rick and Morty dabbing bong is R800, and the iCan Electronic Dab Rig tops the range at R1,470. None of these is a starting point.
The order to buy smoking accessories in
- Papers and tips (R35). Non-negotiable if you are rolling.
- A lighter (R20). Trivial, and you will not get far without one.
- A grinder (R200). The single biggest improvement per rand on this list.
- A simple pipe (R390). Useful when you do not want to roll.
- A bong (R850+) or a rig (R790+). Buy when you know you want one, not before.
All in, R255 gets you properly set up for rolling. Everything after that is preference.
One thing people skip
A grinder does nothing for flower that has dried out in a sandwich bag. However you store it matters as much as what you grind it with — worth sorting out early. See the full range on the consumables shelf, and compare the flower itself in our indoor vs outdoor guide or the greenhouse breakdown.
Herb Shack runs a loyalty membership: it is free to join, you need to be 18 or over to register, and registering is what unlocks the THC side of the shelf. Members earn a point for every R1 spent and put those points towards money off future orders.
