THC Edibles: Dosing, Timing and Reading the Label

THC edibles catch more people out than anything else we sell, and almost always for the same reason: they take far longer to arrive than smoking, so people assume nothing is happening and take more. This guide is about reading the pack properly and pacing it — nothing here is medical advice, and none of it is a substitute for your own judgement.
Reading the milligrams
Every edible on our shelf is labelled twice: the strength of one piece, and the total in the pack. Those are very different numbers and mixing them up is the classic mistake.
- Divine Hi Gummies — 10mg x 10 units, R180. Ten pieces at 10mg each.
- Divine Hi Mango Heads — 20mg x 10, R240. Same count, double the strength per piece.
- CheesePuffs — 200mg pack, 20 x 10mg, R220. A 200mg pack, but each piece is 10mg.
- Divine High Cookies — 35mg each, 105mg total, R100. Three cookies at 35mg.
- Divine High Cookies — 350mg total, R300. The large pack. Not a single serving.
- Divine High Brownie — R130.
A 350mg pack is not one dose. It is a pack. That distinction is the whole point of this section.
Why THC edibles take so long
Smoking reaches you through the lungs in minutes. An edible has to be digested first, which means it typically takes 45 minutes to two hours to arrive, and it can be longer on a full stomach. It then lasts far longer than a smoke — plan for an evening, not an hour.
That delay is the trap. Nothing happening after 40 minutes does not mean the dose was too small; it usually means it has not arrived yet.
Starting sensibly
- Start with one 10mg piece if edibles are new to you, and less if you are cautious.
- Wait two full hours before even considering more. Set a timer — this is the single rule that prevents a bad evening.
- Do not stack it with anything while you are still learning how it lands.
- Stay in the first time. No driving, and nothing you need to be sharp for.
If you do overdo it, it is unpleasant rather than dangerous: find somewhere quiet, drink water, and wait it out.
Edibles versus flower
They are not interchangeable. Flower is quick to arrive and easy to pace a little at a time, which is why most people find it easier to judge — see our indoor vs outdoor guide if you are choosing a jar, or a pre-roll to try one. Edibles are slower, longer and produce no smoke at all, which is the reason people choose them.
Keep them somewhere sensible, too: sealed, out of the light and — most importantly — well out of reach of children and pets, who cannot tell the difference between these and ordinary sweets. Our storage guide covers the rest.
Herb Shack runs a loyalty membership: it is free to join, you need to be 18 or over to register, and registering is what unlocks the THC side of the shelf. Members earn a point for every R1 spent and put those points towards money off future orders.
